THI brings sustainable impetus to the 11th grade

On 19 July, the annual project day took place at Apian Gymnasium Ingolstadt, where pupils can immerse themselves in a wide range of topics. The modules offered during the project week are intended to help strengthen the practical relevance of everyday school life. Many external speakers, parents and teachers help to put together a varied programme.

The "Mensch in Bewegung" project team from Technische Hochschule Ingolstadt (THI) took part for the third time and this time offered a series of interesting lectures and workshops for the 135 Year 11 pupils.

Why isn't there more sustainability?

Dr Stefan Schweiger presented global and national sustainability figures and explained why there has not yet been a sufficient response to environmental challenges. He concluded with the promise that global society will nevertheless become sustainable.

Was the future better in the past?

Dr Gerhard Schönhofer shed light on cultural and social science research into the future and addressed the relationship between past, present and future, supplemented by examples and study opportunities at THI.

Bionics - Nature as the master of technology

Franziska Hegner showed how natural mechanisms have inspired technical innovations. Examples such as the burdock, dragonfly, lotus plant and honeycomb illustrated the principles of bionics.

Adaptation to climate change using the example of winter tourism - the Sudelfeld2012 case study

Christopher Reuter used a case study on the Sudelfeld ski resort to demonstrate the effects of climate change on winter sports tourism and possible adaptation strategies based on existing models. In a concluding discussion round, concrete measures and the actual developments in the winter sports resort since 2012 were discussed.

Climate protection and the question of social justice

In a workshop, Anna-Lisa Klages discussed the ecological and social impact of different lifestyles. The pupils analysed fictitious personal profiles and discussed the sustainability of these lifestyles.

Political sustainability and AI - Are algorithms the better politicians?

Michael Haiden addressed the role of artificial intelligence in politics and discussed whether algorithms could replace or at least support politicians in the long term. The ethical implications of such developments were highlighted.

The project day at Apian Gymnasium provided pupils with in-depth knowledge and practical insights into important topics for the future. Such formats are of great importance in order to promote dialogue between universities and schools and to jointly shape a future worth living.
