The courses start at the beginning of each winter and summer semester lecture period, i.e. on 1 October or 15 March.
Please consult My Stundenplan on primuss.de for the dates of the language course you wish to attend (you will find the courses under "SZ"). If the date fits into your schedule, you must enroll in the course. Otherwise, you will not be able to attend the course. Subject enrollment takes place shortly before the start of the semester. You can find more information about the Language Centre on Moodle.
No previous knowledge is required for beginner courses at A1 proficiency level. For higher proficiency levels you will require the relevant prior knowledge. See the following point to find out how to assess your language proficiency level.
- The levels are as follows: A1 and A2 (beginner), B1 and B2 (advanced), C1 and C2 (native speaker level).
- The Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (GER) provides you with guidance in assessing your language proficiency level. If at the start of the language course you feel you have wrongly assessed your proficiency level, you can change to a different course to suit your level, providing such a course is available.
- The Language Centre offers the following for self-assessment in English: Cambridge Exam / DAAD Certificate and Placement Test. The test can be taken once free of charge at the beginning of the semester. If you wish to take the test later, there is a charge of EUR 5.00. See Moodle for the test and further details.
- The Language Centre also offers a placement test for German. This is always free of charge and can be accessed via Moodle.
