Lecture series "Sustainable modern living" starts

This established series is now taking place for the fourth time. This year, the focus is on various forms of sustainability: the speakers will highlight social, cultural, and ecological aspects. The aim is not only to explain theoretical approaches, but also to present concrete examples of implementation from science, business, and everyday life. For example, the events will examine the question of why people on low incomes often suffer more financially, health-wise, and socially from the consequences of climate change or critically analyze the paradoxes of sustainable development cooperation in countries of the global South.

The lecture series will take place weekly on Thursdays from 1 February to 7 March from 18:30 to 20:00. It is designed as an online format and offers the opportunity to ask questions to the speakers and discuss them together. All interested parties are cordially invited.

The event will kick off on 1 February with the lecture "As if from another star: What (better?) worlds does science fiction show us?" with Professor Dr Laura Bechthold (THI) and Dr Gerhard Schönhofer (THI). Among other things, the two speakers will explore the question of how (un)realistic the futures depicted in science fiction films are and what critical references can be made to the present.
