What is special about a burdock? Why are leaves folded? Why do lotus plants stay clean even in muddy water? These and many other exciting questions from the fields of bionics, sustainability, and foresight research were explored by scientists from THI together with young people from Neuburg.
Descartes-Gymnasium Neuburg wants to become a climate school. To this end, sustainability topics are not only to be taught in lessons but also implemented in everyday school life as part of the Whole School Approach. So how can the path to a sustainable, climate-neutral school be organized in concrete terms? Together with the ‘People on the Move’ team at THI, consisting of Dr Gerhard Schönhofer, Dr Stefan Schweiger, Anna-Lisa Klages, Franziska Hegner, and Julia Pfeiffer, the students looked for starting points. In various workshops, desirable and realistic futures were developed as part of a future lab, ways to create a bicycle-friendly school or contradictions between social and ecological sustainability in connection with (un)voluntary sustainable lifestyles. In addition, the participants learned how nature can serve as a teacher and why more sustainability is not (yet) possible.
