Discussion with experts from research and industry on the energy transition

On Wednesday, 12 June, an inspiring panel discussion took place in the Wittelsbacher Saal of Scheyern Monastery under the motto "Just save the world for a moment? The contribution of the energy transition to a sustainable future". The evening was organised by the Fachoberschule and the Berufsoberschule Scheyern, and the two universities in the region also contributed their expertise. Around 120 people, including over 90 pupils, took part in the event, which focussed intensively on the topic of sustainable development and the energy transition.

The event kicked off with an introductory lecture by Prof Dr Martin Schneider from the School of Transformation and Sustainability at the Katholische Universität Eichstätt-Ingolstadt (KU). This was followed by a panel discussion with representatives from business and science: Prof. Dr Uwe Holzhammer (Head of Forschungs- und Transferzentrum Nachhaltigkeit at Technische Hochschule Ingolstadt), Prof. Dr Martin Schneider (KU), Evi Weichenrieder (Head of Sustainability Communications at Hipp), Kathrin Merkert (Head of Decarbonisation and Subsidies at eta-Energieberatung Pfaffenhofen) and Roman Breuer (Managing Director of Bauer Resources).

The audience showed great interest and commitment. A key outcome of the discussion was the realisation that the transformation towards a sustainable society can only succeed if people with different interests and perspectives work together. The panel agreed on the formulation of a "culture of cooperation" as a necessary basis for the success of the energy transition.

It became clear that the path to sustainability is neither easy nor quick, but also that it is worthwhile and can be achieved together. This positive message characterised the evening and created an optimistic mood among those present. The event is set to take place again next year.
