The European Union and the German government are pursuing the common goal of significantly and rapidly reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Two key strategies for achieving the climate protection targets are the energy and mobility transition. At the centre of the mobility transition is the promotion of electric vehicles, which do not cause any direct CO2 emissions and are more efficient than vehicles with combustion engines.
On 24 September, the future of mobility was the subject of a lively discussion at Haus im Moos in Karlshuld: Under the title "Electromobility - Part of Region 10's energy transition", Bodo Schneider, research associate at Technische Hochschule Ingolstadt (THI) and project collaborator in the "Mensch in Bewegung" transfer project, gave an exciting presentation on the interrelationships between electromobility and the energy transition. Schneider showed what effects the growth in electromobility could have specifically for Region 10 and what opportunities and challenges this harbours for the transport transition.
Schneider gave a particularly impressive explanation of the central role electric vehicles could play in the German transport transition and how this would develop energy requirements in the region. His message was clear: technical innovations are an important driver of the energy and transport transition, but they alone will not be enough. In order to achieve the German government's ambitious climate targets, decisive measures and a broad social endeavour are still required. Another focus was on how citizens can actively participate in the regional energy transition. According to Schneider, this is a decisive factor in successfully shaping the transition.
Anyone who wants to try out the various options for the energy transition in Region 10 for themselves can do so with the "Energy Transition Tool" from the "Mensch in Bewegung" project. Scientists at THI have developed the online tool, which can be used to determine what the personal energy mix for the region could look like in order to achieve the federal government's goal.
