In future, young scientists will be able to do their doctorate directly at THI. Previously, only co-operative doctorates led by universities were possible. The Bavarian Higher Education Innovation Act (BayHIG), which came into force in January of this year, has also opened up the right to award doctorates to Bavarian universities of applied sciences. In a high-profile review process, the THI was able to impress with two independent doctoral centres. For THI President Professor Walter Schober, it is a special honour that THI is the only Bavarian university to have two independent doctoral centres. The award of the right to award doctorates is the result of the research strength that characterises the professors at THI. Professor Christian Facchi, Head of the newly created Doctoral School and one of three representatives of universities of applied sciences in Germany on the German Council of Science and Humanities, also welcomes the fact that THI can finally carry out independent doctorates after more than 100 successful cooperative doctorates.
