The transformation hub MIAMy, funded by the "Bundesministerium für Wirtschaft und Klimaschutz" (BMWK) with a budget of €4.9 million, was launched with the aim of accelerating the realization and market launch in the field of connected and safe autonomous driving. This is to be achieved through the systematic preparation of methods and tools as well as the provision of relevant data and services. MIAMy serves as a network for the participating consortium partners and supports them in knowledge generation and transformation.
Challenges and potential barriers are to be overcome in the project against the background of the thematic focus of safe automated driving and the closely linked transformation-relevant areas of "vehicle concepts" and "vehicle digitalization" from the perspective of technology, value chain, market, business models, law and work and organizational psychology. MIAMy uses a comprehensive portfolio of methods to achieve its goals, including the development of knowledge tools, analyses and a wide range of workshops and training courses based on the latest research findings. A central component of the transformation concept is the implementation of an open innovation platform with a real laboratory environment and IT collaboration platform. This is where innovative design, development and testing tools are developed and used, with the data generated during operation being made easily accessible. The tool chain extends from conception and virtual design to testing and practical evaluation in simulators, VR and real laboratories. The project partners contribute their own research infrastructures and are closely networked with each other.
CARISSMA-ISAFE expands the MIAMy transformation hub - also consisting of "Niedersächsisches Forschungszentrum Fahrzeugtechnik" (NFF) at TU Braunschweig, "Deutsches Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt" (DLR) and ITS mobility e. V. - both technically in the field of vehicle safety in safe automated driving and structurally. The consortium links two of the strongest automotive research regions in Europe. CARISSMA-ISAFE contributes its extensive network and existing partnerships with major industrial partners (including Audi, BMW, Continental) and the public sector, thus providing significant support in the creation of the technology radar and in identifying key building blocks for the introduction of Safe Automated Driving. By integrating the innovative CARISSMA-ISAFE test facilities and other research facilities (digital test fields A9 and First Mile IN2Lab, AI mobility node, digital start-up center, etc.), CARISSMA-ISAFE fundamentally complements the MIAMy IT collaborative platform, on which targeted data sets with raw sensor data, reference measurements, labeled and processed measurement data and relevant metadata are collected and integrated, with a special focus on critical driving and traffic scenarios including various weather conditions. As an institute within an academic research institution, CARISSMA-ISAFE also offers training and further education courses as well as networking opportunities such as specialist conferences and workshops for stakeholders in the field of automated driving. In this way, it actively contributes to the promotion of young specialists.
