48 semesters at THI, not as a student, but as a professor - Prof. Wolf-Dieter Tiedemann looked back on this when he celebrated his retirement on July 30, 2024 in the company of companions and colleagues.
Professor Wolf-Dieter Tiedemann is a thoroughbred computer scientist and lecturer. Shortly after his appointment, he took on the role of Head of Computer Science and looked after the students with dedication. He also held all his other numerous offices with passion and conscientiousness, making a significant contribution to the development of THI.
He will always be remembered for his long tenure as dean: He was dean of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science for ten years and, after the faculty split he organized, was founding dean of the Faculty of Computer Science for a further two years.
During this time, he played a key role in the development of numerous degree programs, which contributed to the increase in student numbers and thus the growth of the faculty. As chairman of numerous appointment committees and as dean, he had a major influence on the composition of the faculty.
Even after his time as dean, he continued to make a commendable contribution to the faculty: As Vice Dean and, because the topic of internationalization is important to him, also as course director of the English-language Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Bachelor program.
On behalf of the entire faculty, we would like to thank Wolf-Dieter Tiedemann for his enormous achievements and his tireless commitment to the university. It is with great gratitude and respect that we bid him farewell into his well-deserved retirement.
